  Reminiscence

Delfer. I remember him. I remember the day he gave me this book.

“I want you to write great things” he said to me.

“Pasts and futures. Hopes and dreams! I want you to write great things”

I never understood Delfer much those days. Those days... Those days when the fields were lush and the sky was clear like clean glass. I miss those days.

I remember when Naia and I would go down to the stream as kids and talk about silly things like what we wanted to be when we grew up. Nothing could take our joy away. Nothing except for knowledge.

This isn't the knowledge of how plants grow or how tall you are, no those were fine, however there are things that are best left ignored.

Take our government for instance. Two sides, two opinions, two beliefs. Two hatreds for each other.

I was part of the religious government. All our opinions were based on our god Eurenius.

My friend Delfer was part of the scientific government who believed in logic and coincidence.

As I said, two sides, two opinions, two hates. But the hate didn't save us when destruction came.

Downfall

I remember it so clearly. The day our planet shattered.

It started like any other day, beginning with the usual routine.

I was over at Delfer's helping him calculate star charts when we noticed that outside, it had gone dark.

It was strange, like a growing blemish in the sky swelling by the second. Soon the our sun was completely covered.

By then many people were outside staring. Those stares soon turned to panic and panic turned to chaos.

Delfer and I were frantically pushing through the crowds of people in a search for Naia. I soon caught a glimpse of her by the scholars tower and we ran for it. Then it struck.

We all felt tremors beneath us and then the ground burst asunder. Delfer and I dove into the tower. Then came the heat.

It was like being shoved into a smoldering oven, but then soon came relief.

At first it was just light but then there was a blast of chilling air.

Next thing I knew, it was me Delfer, Naia, and some others gazing out into a debris filled space.

We should have suffocated, but no! The tower had saved us!

Delfer used to say that because of all the heat and combustion, the crystal that made up the tower underwent a chemical process and released oxygen.

“Amazing” Naia would tell us.

I don't think anyone would have disagreed.

Rebirth

Many of us adapted after the disaster. Some would go out with nets and pluck their belongings from the void.

The strangest things would get reeled in as well. There was even talk of books bewitched by the darkness!

Of course Delfer didn't believe this. He was to caught up in scavenging his research papers. I'm still amazed by his determination to this day.

I however, was lost. With my home in shards and my family dead, my sanity was hanging on by a wire! I had even stopped seeing Naia!

I was truly alone and no one could help me.

Eventually I resorted to hiding away on one of the smaller islands. Sometimes Delfer would come and talk to me, but I would just turn him away.

“Eddler, you need to come back! Things are going to change! I'm sure of it!

But I would just turn him away.

Discovery

The next time I woke up I saw light.

We had lived in the dark for so long. What was this?

Soon I found myself I found myself peering off my island at the auditorium. Delfer was on stage with Naia and some strange machine.

The beast was sculpted out of solid crystal and rhythmically pulsed with an inner warmth that was almost unnerving.

“ Finally we can come out of the darkness! “ Delfer exclaimed.

“ Once we harness the power of these crystals, we may finally see things in a new light! “

The crowd cheered, he bowed, and then he held Naia.

Rage boiled up inside myself as I watched them! While I was gone he took her! Friends strait from the start and he stole her while my back was turned! LIEING! TRETUROUS! FIENDISH!

But I did not hate him then, like I do now...

Rebellion

I began plotting numerous ways to get revenge. I would go so long without sleep and countless times I had nearly fallen off the the little island I was on.

Eventually, after who knows how long I came up with a plan. I was going to start a rebellion!

I would travel to the main islands and shout about how his actions defied our god Eurennius.

“ Artificial light! Do you know what he is doing? He wishes to replace our light! The great light! “

Eventually I had conjured up a small group of followers. That group soon became a community and that community evolved into an alliance! I had created a viral opinion.

If only I knew that virus was deadly.

Collapse

Before I took any action I first had to tamper with his precious generators. The deed was very simple and unseen. All I did was alter some of his coordinates. I'm amazed that it was so simple, unike Delfer! All I had to do was turn some nobs to change 8, 56 to 9, 25. After that, I was set.

Finally it was our time to attack the tower. Everyone had looks of pure hatred and disgust on their faces. I cherished those looks deeply. That's how I knew we were ready.

I prepared them with a speech and then we charged.

I can remember hearing the doors the tower crash open. I remembered how the scholars fought back. I remember Naia's dead body.

They killed her.... No. HE killed her! If it wasn't for Delfer she wouldn't be dead! I didn't do it! It WAS HIM!

… I know where he went.

Whoever may find this... remember.

Remember me.

Remember Delfer.

Remember Naia...

Remember us because in the end we all will be gone!

I'll make sure of it.

Now... Where did they hide the books?
